Seawater has similar chemical compounds as the blood found in the human body, primarily the Chloride and Sodium content. This is believed to be derived from human evolution.

Human Red Blood Cells, Platelets and T-lymphocyte (erythocytes = red; platelets = yellow; T-lymphocyte = light green.

based on the belief that we evolved from microscopic aquatic organisms. As these organisms we had no blood, but as we evolved in the sea, our blood retained some properties of the sea water.

There are many different components of sea water. However, there are eleven ions that make up its main chemicals. Those eleven chemicals, according to Oceans by Karl Turekian, are (in grams per kilogram of water): Chloride (19.l35), Sodium (10.76), Sulfate (2.712), Magnesium (1.294), Calcium (0.413), Potassium (0.387), Bicarbonate (0.142), Bromide (0.067), Strontium (0.008), Boron (0.004), and Fluoride (0.001). however the only difference between sea water and human blood is proteine and of corse the ratio.

Most sea life also has a salt/water balance which is similar to that of the sea and human blood. However, that only pertains to the sea animals without backbones. Three exceptions to this are sharks, skates, and rays, which also have similar salt/water balance in their blood. All other boney fish

have fluids with 30-50% of the salt concentration of sea water. This is because water leaves the body of boney fish and the salt enters. So to keep water and get rid of salt, they pump salt out of their gills and drink sea water. When boney fish change from salt water to fresh water, they change their salt-regulatory system so that they keep salt and get rid of water.

Without both water and salt, there would be no way for life to exist, Although many people dont realize it, even a subtle increase or decrease of the salt or water content in any environment can wreak havoc with the physiological functions of living organisms. A fine balance must be maintained at all times for you to keep on living. But if that balance is disturbed, the repercussions can be dire.
